Nōtan is a Japanese art form, studying light and dark contrasts in imagery, most commonly in black and white, but also in color.. The possibilities are endless!
Resident youth instructor, Louise Placek, will inspire students to create their own designs with these elements. No matter their drawing or design ability, every student will be able to create a masterpiece to take home.
All supplies will be provided, and masks are optional and encouraged, but not required. We will sanitize work tables and tools before students arrive.
Ages 8-11 are welcome! Cost: $40
We do not issue refunds except for class cancellations or postponements.
Louise’s Story:
I learned to love art at an early age. My artist mother taught us to draw, paint, sculpt and to create art from nothing. Every summer she offered us specific lessons, from art history to forming clay into masterpieces. As a young adult while attending UT, with small children of my own , I found time to explore many forms of art including the traditional form of batik (wax and dye), which became a passion until time constraints made me put my creative toys away. Career and child raising became a priority until many years later health concerns forced early retirement in 2006. By 2008 I was ready to return to my artistic roots and began exploring new art forms. Through a local art organization in Buda I began offering unique, free art projects for kids at the local library on the evening of the first Thursday of every month. Eventually I worked with the library directly to offer summer classes for kids pre-k through high school. A curve ball took us to Houston for two years (husband had a heart transplant) and after his surgery I dove deeply into mixed media to relieve the stress and anxiety associated with his illness and recovery. We are now back in the central Texas area (Bastrop) and I’m looking forward to working with kids through the Lost Pines Art League and exploring new creative outlets for myself.
