*You may bring a DSLR, point and shoot or smartphone camera for class.

Learn about equipment for macro and close-up (camera, lenses, inexpensive close-up filters, extension tubes, reversing and coupling rings, tripod, focusing rail,
and more) and how to use them. Review composition, the effect of focal length, and depth of field on subject and background. Learn how to control natural light, using inexpensive plastics and reflective foils, black boxes, and flashlights. Understand light metering and exposure. Photograph together with the instructor on location Participants will be involved in image discussion, questions and answers.

Day 1:  Introduction to new techniques and tools for extreme close-ups (macro) and close-ups with unusual inexpensive lenses using digital DSLR, mirrorless, point and shoot
cameras, or smartphone. Participants will learn how can they use a normal lens in combination with different close-up filters, magnifiers, or plastic lenses, and will
get a review of exposure and composition.
Day 2: In the Field (at a local park or Bastrop State Park. The meeting time will be decided by the class, and will occur in late afternoon-early evening. The time is tentatively set for 4-6pm.
Day 3: Review the Art and Techniques of close-up photography and discuss the images with the participants from technical, compositional and artistic points of view.

Laszlo’s Story:

Dr. Laszlo Perlaky is a retired research scientist, educator and photographic artist, lives in the Tahitian Village, Bastrop, TX. After years of exploring black and white
nature photography, Perlaky transitioned to the chrome and monochrome mediums, combining large-format film photography with quad-tone printing. He
has won several prestigious awards and is published in books, magazines, and calendars. Perlaky has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows, and his
works are included in both private collections and permanent exhibitions at the Texas Medical Center, Houston, and in the Founding Collection of Art, at the
University of Houston, Clear Lake. Perlaky previously worked as curator at Fill Your Cup Coffee Shop Gallery, and currently serves as curator of the Lost Pines Art
Center’s Art Wall at the Bastrop Public Library in Bastrop, Texas. He is a member of several national and international photographic and art organizations, as well
as an elected board member at the Lost Pines Art League in Bastrop. Laszlo is a long-time photography instructor at Houston Center for Photography and
Houston Photography Study Group.
