ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Every three months we spotlight an artist, inviting them to bring a display of works for a solo exhibition. Our First Saturday event, Art After Dark, offers an opening reception for the artist, where they are invited to do an Art Talk (optional) and have a chance to mingle with art lovers, collectors, and fellow artists. 

Each selected artist not only receives a solo show and reception, but is also promoted online through our website and social media, with a reach of several thousand followers. Printed ads are also placed around downtown Bastrop.

Policies 

The Membership Committee uses a rubric system of points for all applicants, ensuring a fair and transparent process.

*The Membership Committee reserves the right to select a qualified artist for the Artist Spotlight show, if (1) there are no applications received upon the deadline for the quarter, or (2) if applicants do not meet the minimum requirements of rubric points in the jury process. (Minimum rubric points to qualify are 18 out of 30).

The Membership Committee acts as the jury and helps with advertising of the selected artist. The MC assists with the opening reception, and with questions from the artist.

If selected, he/she may re-apply every 12 months. An artist who cancels his/her reception with inadequate notice (less than 30 days prior to the scheduled date) for any reason other than catastrophic occurrence, or fails to follow Artist Spotlight Policies during a previous show will be ineligible to apply again for a period of one (1) year. This does not, however, exclude said artist from participating in League-sponsored Member Group Shows. **Artists who are not selected for the show they applied for will be considered in the next quarter, if artist agrees.

ART ELIGIBILITY: To protect against copyright infringement, submitted artwork must be original in concept and may not be copied from published photographs (either printed or on line). License or assignment from the copyright owner (the photographer) must be submitted if the work is done from a published work.

Artist Spotlight shows are exhibited in an area designated by the Art Center.

Qualifications/Guidelines

~ Submission Fee $25

~ Artists must submit THREE works for consideration that represent the show you would display. Shows must be cohesive, either visually, or thematically. **If selected, we will use one of the three pieces you submit as your cover art.

~ Spotlight shows are December-February, March-May, June-August, September-November.

~ Deadline to submit: Quarterly~ January 15th, April 15th, July 15th, October 15th.

~ Notifications to artists: Within 10 business days of deadlines.

~ Drop off times for accepted artists are communicated by Art Center Administrator.

~ Works must be original and family friendly.

~ Artists determine their prices and receive 80% of the sale. (We handle fees and sales tax from buyers.)
