Murals Seminar for Artists with Raúl Valdez
Thursday, March 28th, 2019 10a-4:30p
Raúl Valdez has been painting murals in Austin since 1975, and is now considered one the best. He feels murals are a reflection of culture, history, and the struggles and triumphs of society. Community is key for any mural project, and Raúl’s approach is always a collaboration of ideas, designs and images with anyone from the local area. You will see his works at several locations around Austin, including schools, the Pan Am Rec Center, the Cap Metro Headquarters, and UT. Learn more about Raúl here: http://www.raulvaldez.
This seminar will be a discussion and lessons in Materials, Application (challenges and techniques with various types of surfaces), Locations, Translating an artist’s image to a larger scale, and Raúl perspective on Community. There will also be an overview of how murlas have evolved through history.
Anyone is welcome that is an experienced artist, as this will be the foundation for participants in the Bastrop Mural Project in Bastrop’s Cultural Arts District on Chestnut St and beyond. (This is required training for anyone who wishes to be a muralist anywhere.) The only supplies needed are paper and pen for note taking. There will be a lunch break, and you can bring your own, or enjoy a light meal from Tough Cookie Coffee Bar in the Art Center, or nearby take out.
