Louise Placek, Youth Instructor

Aboriginal Art

Wed. July 31, 2019; 10-11:30am (level 1), 1-1:30pm (level 2)

Summer is here!  This workshop is all about traditional art of the indigenous people from Australia, the Aborigines.  Their art work typically depicts animals, scenes from nature, or abstract images.  Instructor, Louise Placek, will explain briefly about the history of Aboriginal art, and allow kids to choose the animals and images they want to portray, using non toxic acrylic paints. The projects in each class will be tailored to better suit each student, depending on age, and will be completed in one class to take home.  All supplies are provided.

10:00am- 11:30am; Ages 5-8

1:00pm- 2:30pm; Ages 9-12

Louise’s Story:

Louise learned to love art at an early age. Her artist mother taught her and her siblings to draw, paint, sculpt and create art from nothing. Every summer, she gave them specific lessons, from art history to forming clay into masterpieces. As a young adult while attending UT, and with small children of her own, she found time to explore many forms of art including the traditional form of batik (wax and dye). Through a local art organization in Buda she began offering unique, free art projects for kids at the local library, and later taught regularly in their summer programs.  A curve ball took them to Houston for two years (husband had a heart transplant) and after his surgery she dove deeply into mixed media to relieve the stress and anxiety associated with his illness and recovery. They are now back in the central Texas area (Bastrop) and Louise is looking forward to working with kids through the Lost Pines Art Center and exploring new creative outlets for herself.
