All Level Painting, “Let’s Paint Texas!” with Bobbi Boyd; Saturday, July 20th, 2019: 1-4:00pm
Using the beloved, familiar Texas landscape all around us, students will gain new tools in how to realize their ideas into worthwhile art work. While learning basic techniques of color and composition, students will create a simple “impressionistic” painting using watercolors or pastels.
All supplies are provided, and students can bring in a photo of their favorite Texas landscape. Otherwise, Bobbi will have several photos to choose from. Ages 16 and up are welcome.
Bobbi is a fine artist from Laguna Beach, California who recently relocated to Bastrop because she was drawn to its colorful history, beauty, and interesting mix of locals. She sees an endless supply of things to paint! A child of military people, Bobbi was born in Augsburg Germany and lived in the Bavarian Alps the first three years of her life. Also living in to Japan, Hawaii, and various locales in the US have strongly influenced her world view and vision. Bobbi’s work celebrates cultures and travel themes that are often are international. In 2000 art went from being a part-time interest to a full-time passion, and Bobbi went to Laguna College of Art and design to get her BFA in fine art. While still attending school, Bobbi was accepted into the prestigious exhibition of Laguna’s Festival of Art, and was an exhibitor for 4 years. During that time, she discovered her gift and passion for teaching art. She maintained a studio gallery in Laguna, and exhibited her work as well as taught workshops and tutored small groups and individuals. Bobbi also painted her way through Ireland and went to Thailand on a mission’s trip. She rode an elephant who left the line and headed for the pond, but that’s another story.
Bobbi’s Teaching Philosophy:
One of my favorite artists is Matisse, and I love his perspective on art: Don’t try to be original. Be simple. Be good technically, and if there is something in you, it will come out. (I’ll teach you a couple of technical things and you’ll be on your way) The artists must see all things as if he were seeing them for the first time. All his life he must see as he did when he was a child. (This should be fun and easy)
My classes are aimed at beginners as well as those with some experience. I employ a mentoring style and teach color theory and foundational skills while student is working on personal projects. Whatever your level, I can help you up your game and feel a new confidence in creating art. Bobbi teaches that students that even mistakes can be reworked into something beautiful and unexpected in your piece. “Let’s paint Texas” because it’s fabulous here. There is so much to celebrate in Central Texas. We’ll learn about color, and composition while having a wonderful time interacting with others who have also wanted to get together and paint.
