July Art Getaway
Saturday July 15th from 11:00 – 6:00pm
Watercolor Asian Painting: Artist Mark Bray will present the “Azure Dragon” – a noble and powerful creature that comes to us from ancient Chinese culture. The proper name is “Dragon King of the East Sea” and it represents the Spring season. In western culture we know it as “Feng Shui” – the philosophical system of harmony. Students will paint a copy of the flag from the Qing Dynasty, using watercolor. The image will be pre-printed, so drawing skills will not be necessary. You can view Mark Bray’s art work currently showing in the Art of the Pines gallery of the Art Center-Machines exhibit. (Register Below)
Kids Table: Our kids activity will be a stained glass project, using plastic sheets and colored markers. Using a small piece of acetate, kids can create a colorful design, and place in a paper frame for hanging in a window. Led by artist Vicki Wofford.
Community Project: Come join us for our next community project! Light Catchers! This ancient Native American craft has endless possibilities, limited only by your imagination. We will provide fishing line for stringing, and various beads and shiny elements for you to create beautiful strands. This project is ongoing and will be hung in the Art Center and the Sculpture Garden (coming soon!) Some supplies provided, but glass beads and other trinkets for stringing would be greatly appreciated.
Pastel Painting demo: Enid Wood holds signature status in the Pastel Society of America and Pastel Society of New Mexico. Her workshops are popular throughout Texas. Her demo will include the block in of a large landscape painting in PanPastels, applied with cosmetic sponges or foam applicators. She will also demonstrate her techniques for creating small abstract paintings on Art Spectrum Colourfix Artist Trading Cards. Enid Wood will be teaching a pastel painting workshop at the Art Center on July 29th
Oil Painting Demo: Artist Chris Knioum will demonstrate her mastery of oil painting, as she creates her rose in a vase on canvas. She is a featured artist in July at the Art Center, and you can view her art work in the Members Gallery Featured Artist Wall- Warm Weather, Warm Colors exhibit.
